Mommy, Look it's Hannah Montana!

Two reasons for writing about this: First, I have an opinion and second, every time Brielle sees a picture of Hannah Montana at the store she enthusiastically lets me know, "MOMMY, LOOK IT'S HANNAH MONTANA!" If I didn't have kids I probably wouldn't know who the heck Miley Cyrus is...when her father was on Dancing with the stars I had NO CLUE who whatever his name was...Anyway, if you haven't heard, this 15 year-old girl posed semi-nude on Vanity Fair, which I never read and don't care to either. But the fact that Vanity Fair published the semi-nude, very sexy picture has been all over the news...the truth of the matter is that I could care less about what these dumb celebrities do with their stinking lives but it totally hit home because Brielle recognizes who she is and SHE IS TWO YEARS OLD!!!!!!! She doesn't even watch the show, she may have watched it once or twice. I watched the interview Glenn Beck did with the dad and he seemed like a decent guy and I was happy to see that a few of these celebrities and I shared a few values. I was in a way, relieved to see that not all people in Hollywood are shallow and have no values whatsoever. I thought, "wow good for them!" I was completely deceived! As a parent, if I saw that the photographer was getting too risque taking pictures of my 15 year-old Brielle I would have stopped the photo shoot and I would have done something about it!!!! But they just went with the flow like brainless human beings! Her mother and father were both there! Frankly, you can't blame the girl because she IS 15 years-old! It was the parents' responsibility! And it is obvious that the magazine and the photographer had their own agenda: to corrupt the image of what a 15 year old girl should look like!

My conclusion on the matter: the only people we can look up to as role models are our prophet, our families and the good people in our lives, that we KNOW would NEVER compromise their values. Obviously, Brielle right now has no clue what is going on, she only sees the flashy clothes she wears and the flashy, INTRUSIVE advertisements that are EVERYWHERE we go!!! It makes me so scared to realize that the world is in to get our children! It is such a real threat! I guess I have never felt it so strongly like this...The adversary is in to get us and he is using every tool he can to accomplish his purposes. We really need to safeguard our homes, because this is a battle for our lives and the lives of our children. It is so real! The only constant thing we have is the gospel. What would we do without it?
P.S. If you like Jack Johnson you may have heard his song "Good People" (which is playing right now) It definitely describes what I'm talking about.

That is why we never paid for cable service. It has made such a huge difference in our home and in our lives. We had a hard time at first not having TV but after a while you really don't miss it. When we watch any TV now we are taken back, even by the commercials and cartoons. You really don't notice all the small things that they sneak into shows until you stop watching for a while.

I was pretty upset about this whole situation for the same reason that my 4 year old knows who she is. And it's not like I let my child look at Vanity Fair magazine but it's the fact that she has a fan base that young that she needs to have parents that know this and realize what they are turning their daughter into. I do blame the parents. I saw them in an inter view after the whole controversy and they said "we were there and knew what we were doing and we thought it was a beautiful picture." I could not believe it! It may be a beautiful picture but do you want the whole world to see it on the cover of a magazine, that grown men will look at. It was jsut appalling to me! Okay I'm done ranting and raving about this. I'm with you on this one! We can't the our children look to Hollywood for role models ever! Not even if at first they seem like decent people because it seems that Hollywood takes the good out of these people.

So true! It seems like we can't look up to anyone in Entertainment these days. So sad.

I can't believe that Brielle know who she is! I think she is so annoying and it drives me crazy that all these little girls look to her and think she is the coolest girl! It is so sad what our world thinks it "OK". I tell Justin all the time how worried I am about TV and movies and entertainment of today. I just want to try to have the gospel as much as I can in my home. It is going to be a battle as our kids get older and I just hope that we will be prepared!! It is a miracle that we have the gospel. Where would we be without it??!?!

Isn't it scary how wicked the world is becoming? It makes me so nervous to raise our children. We have to teach them so well and make our homes safe. What a huge responsibility. Stupid Satan!! Leave my family alone!!
