Washington D.C. Here We Come!!!

You all probably know that Scott applied to medical school this year, he had 4 interviews and got into 3 schools. (His last interview at University of Washington didn't go well, we weren't surprised when he got a rejection letter in the mail...among many of the ridiculous questions they asked him was the question: "Who was the Time Magazine person of the year 2007?", Scott had no idea that it was Vladimir Putin, the president of Russia...(I mean...everyone should know that right??? NOT!!!) Then they asked him who he would nominate since he didn't know who it was, Scott said that he would nominate President Gordon B. Hinckley...I don't think the committee was too impressed with his answer...but I was proud of him for giving that answer!!!!) Anyway, that was a long story... back to my original thought...Scott has been debating between two medical schools, Des Moines University in Iowa and George Washington University in D.C. He completely LOVED Des Moines, he had a great interview there and was very impressed with all the facilities and he knows quite a few guys from BYU-Idaho who are already there. Des Moines would have been within our comfort zone and the cost of living is very similar to Idaho, which means cheap. On the other hand we have George Washington in D.C.!!! Scott's interview went alright there...the facilities were good, the medical students seem to really love it there. But, we don't know anyone there...everything is expensive...BUT because there are so many people in the D.C. area and surrounding areas he could possibly do his rotations there and not have to move, the possibilities of a good residency are also awesome at GW. The last couple of months, I have seen Scott completely torn between the two schools. We both have sat down several times to see the good and the bad in each school and we finally made a decision and we are ready for D.C. It just feels right! I was totally sold on D.C. from the beginning, an opportunity like this will never come again, to live in the nation's capital!!! We are definitely going to be out of our comfort zone, especially Scott, who has never lived in a big city...but we are both so excited for a change!!! I was telling Scott that when we are out of our comfort zone we grow. Plus, I'm really looking forward to diversity and all the fun stuff in D.C. And I think Scott will receive good training at GW. We are happy and excited about our decision! And you can come visit us anytime! There is so much to do there! :) Orientation starts sometime in August, I finish teaching here on July 18th, so we will be moving sometime after that. We have a few contacts there that we are hoping will give us some direction on where to live, etc. I'm so grateful for the Church because we are never alone, most any where we go we can find support in the members there...AND my family might be moving there too...my mom, sister and brother. My brother wants to get into a graduate program and my mom and sister just want to be close to us!!!...anyway, this is our final decision. If any of you know anyone in D.C. area let us know, we would love to talk to them.

A few interesting facts about GW School of Medicine:

  • GWU is 4 blocks from the White House.
  • Many politicians, including VP Dick Cheney come to GW for routine & emergency procedures.
  • The university's colors are buff and blue. The colors were taken from George Washington's uniform in the Revolutionary War.
  • GW School of Medicine was the 11th medical school in the nation.
  • Tuition is $44, 555
  • Students of the George Washington University have their Commencement on the National Mall or the Ellipse every year.

Naughty Children...

I have no words...these two keep me on my toes everyday!!! But they also make me laugh...:)

Singing & Dancing...

I have a fun DVD with primary songs that Brielle and Braden love to watch on Sundays. It has songs like I'm Child of God and Brielle loves to sing along and it also has the action songs like popcorn popping and other fun songs that they both love. Brielle LOVES to sing and dance and Braden does too. They make me laugh in this video. Especially Brielle, because she is so excited about dancing with Braden and Braden was sooo ready for bed he is not too energetic about it!!!

Brielle LOVES to sing I'm a Child of God and today in the middle of sacrament she started to sing: "Lead me, guide me, walk beside me" very loudly! I was so embarrassed because she caught me off guard and I started laughing uncontrollably!!! How irreverent!!! But I couldn't help it, it was HILARIOUS!!! Scott started laughing and I could hear the people around us laughing too! Oh man! It was quite entertaining to say the least!

Mommy Yummy Soup!!!...More Cookie Monster?

A few weeks ago I was at my friend Sarah's house and it was about time for dinner and both of our husbands were working so she invited the kids and I to stay for dinner...she made the yummiest potato and onion soup! It was a hit with me and the kids! So I got the recipe and made it a couple of days ago and I have to share this recipe with everyone because it is easy and delicious!!! And I am all about "easy and delicious"!!!:) Brielle kept telling me, "Mommy yummy soup!!!!"...it made my day to hear her say that!!!:) Braden devoured a full bowl too...and Scott also liked it. I think it's the best winter soup...it is so filling too... yummy!!!! Here is the recipe:

1 cup diced onion
1/2 cup chopped celery
2 T. butter
1 can (14oz.) chicken broth
1 tsp. salt
Dash of pepper
2 cup of cubed potatoes
2 cup milk
1 tsp. parsley

-Saute onions and celery in butter
-Add broth, salt, pepper and potatoes
-Cover, bring to boil
-Reduce heat and boil gently until potatoes are tender (about 20 min.)
-Add milk and parsley
-Heat thoroughly

**When I made it at home I added some shredded chicken, but I think ham would be good in it too.

I also made the yummiest cake mix cookies. I have had this recipe for a while and finally got around to making them! These cookies are seriously soooo good (I'll have to thank Stacey for the recipe) It was a hit with my kids and Scott. After Brielle had her first one she kept going to the counter and saying "more cookie monster!!!!" She ate about 4 of them after dinner and Braden loved them too. Here is the recipe (super easy):

1 cake mix-any flavor (I used spice cake but Scott said that when he was at Stacey's mom's house she used the rainbow cake one...I think that's what it's called and he said he absolutely LOVED them!!! So I guess I'll have to try that one next)
1/3 c. oil
2 eggs
1tsp. vanilla
350 degrees 8-10 minutes

I hope you try these!!! They were a hit at the Jensen house! I hope they are a hit at your house too!!!!

Te quiero mucho hermanito! Gracias por venir!!!! Both Brielle and Braden absolutely LOVE Kem. Especially Brielle...she calls him "tío Kem". Anyway, these are a few pictures he took with my camera Saturday morning when he was playing with the kids and putting together the cutest little table and chairs he bought for them!!! It is the cutest thing I've ever seen!!! Thanks Kem! We love you!!!

Happy Birthday to Brielle & Braden!

We had a little birthday party for Brielle and Braden this last Saturday. Brielle turned 2 on the 9th and Braden turned 1 on the 6th. We had a great time with friends and family who came to celebrate with us. Thanks everyone for coming! We had yummy food and it was fun to watch the kids dance to some kids' music. We do a lot of dancing and singing around the house so Brielle was ready to show off some of her skills! (I do have a video but I'm trying to figure out how to shorten it so I can post it.) I can't believe my babies are growing up so quickly! Brielle is getting to be such a big girl. She is talking so much and it is a lot of fun. She says the cutest things and my favorite is when she calls her daddy by his first name. Mr. Braden is already walking and has such a tender little personality!!! They are fun little kids and I'm grateful to be their mommy.
